Good day
Yesterday we had a tournament at local hobby store in Manhattan, The Compleat Stratgist. What made this special was all the proceeds of went to cancer research. Here is some background and highlights:
In August 2008, a well respected gamer and friend Al Garnache passed away from cancer. As a community, we decided not to take this sitting down but do something. This tournament was the result of this. Here are some highlights of how everyone pulled together to make this a success:
Gripping Beast and Perry miniatures donated figures and a battle pack
to be "diced off" - you pay $5.00 to roll five dice and then $1.00 per
dice after that.
Al's wife donated his Ottoman army to be diced off
The Compleat Strategist normally charges $5.00 per person to play -
that fee was waved. The Strat also gave 25.00 gift certificates for
best general, best painted and best sportsman awards.
WAB donated books (Art of War, Siege and Conquest, etc.)
People paid the admission fee even though they could not attend - just
to help the cause.
We had people come from the UK and Boston to play!!
It's nice to see that a group of gamers can play their favorite game,
have allot of laughs, a great time and contribute to help fight a
terrible disease. I was proud to be there. Here are some pictures of the event - enjoy!!
